20th
century for it's woollen mills. At the peak of the industry

giving a
detailed history of the woollen mills, as well as Clackmannanshire. Clackmannanshire The
Wee County, as it is fondly known, Clackmannanshire is Scotland's
smallest
county. True to its motto, 'Look About Ye', if you look around there is
plenty
to see and do within Clackmannanshire and the surrounding areas. The
Ochils, a range of hills formed by a geological fault, form the
northern
boundary of the county and offer some excellent walks for both
experienced and
inexperienced hill walkers alike. There are many excellent views to be
had from
viewpoints on each of the walks. The highest summit of the Ochils is
Ben Cleuch
at a height of 2364 ft (751m) above sea level, with impressive views
all round
including the mountains of the Highlands to the north. For the leisure
walker
you can easily reach the summit of Dumyat and enjoy spectacular views
of the
Forth Valley, Stirling and the surrounding area.
Wyvis
is also an ideal base for touring with Stirling, Loch Lomond, the
Trossachs,
St. Andrews, Perth, Glasgow and Scotland's capital Edinburgh all within
an
hours travel. Stirling Stirling,
only 10miles away, one of Scotland's most historic towns was granted
city
status, by the Queen in 2002 and is now Scotland's newest city. The
historic
Stirling Castle, cobbled streets and mix of medieval and renaissance
architecture and buildings make Stirling Old Town one of the finest in
Scotland. From the ramparts of the historic Loch
Lomond and the Trossachs Loch
Lomond is Scotland's first National Park, with many activities
including
hillwalking, watersports and visitor centres, all worth a visit. The
Trossachs (which means the jagged skyline) is an area of outstanding
beauty
with many mountain walks to some
of Scotland's most popular peaks, many over
3000 ft. in height. The spectacular Loch Katrine with it's
steamer
cruises also
has tracks which allow the walker and cyclist to enjoy it's beauty from
the
shore. This area is known
as
Rob Roy country, and his grave can be seen at
Balquhidder Kirk. In the extensive Queen Elizabeth Forest Park
there are many
excellent walks and at the David Marshall Lodge visitor centre you can
watch
the wildlife on video
screens with cameras located at the nesting places
and
also enjoy one of the many short walks in the forest. Falkirk
and Linlithgow A

first and
only rotary boat lift which forms a link between the Forth &
Clyde
and
Union canals. Other places worth a visit in this area are the Roman
built
Antonine Wall and the historic Linlithgow Palace. There
is so much to see and do in the area so why not come and stay with us
and put
the Clackmannanshire county motto of Look About Ye into practice. We
will be
delighted to help you plan your trips so you can get the most out of
